G-Technologies doubles down on Quectel for LoRa and GNSS functions in latest GPS tracker

G-Technologies Sdn Bhd is a Malaysian full-stack IoT solutions provider built on the principle of ‘Improvements Through Measurements’. The company delivers cross-disciplinary, end-to-end IoT monitoring and analytics solutions that run 24/7/365, helping industrial clients gain real-time visibility, predict failures early, and boost operational efficiency. G-Technologies specializes in electronics cargo tracking, fleet management, and construction site monitoring across the logistics, transportation, and construction sectors.

A Quectel customer since 2016, G-Technologies has most recently utilized Quectel modules in its flagship Long-Range GPS Tracker (LGT), a LoRa-based tracking device designed for real-time vehicle and asset monitoring across vehicle yard management and remote site operations. The LGT tracker is deployed in vehicle yards across Malaysia for vehicle inventory management and location tracking.

G-Technologies’ LGT combines LoRa communication and GNSS positioning capabilities in a compact, battery-powered form factor that can be placed on any vehicle in seconds. There is no need for permanent installation, no wiring, and no SIM provisioning. This drop and track simplicity, paired with the ability to cover a full yard with minimal gateway hardware, sets the LGT apart from conventional trackers that demand fixed installations, cellular contracts, and dense network coverage.

“We experienced a bottleneck in low transmission power, limiting our effective range – Quectel’s technical support team worked closely with us to diagnose and resolve the issue, helping us achieve the transmission power needed for reliable long-range vehicle tracking. Malaysia’s SIRIM CoC process requires comprehensive FCC and CE test documentation, which can be difficult and time-consuming to compile independently. Quectel provided these certification reports directly, significantly simplifying our path to regulatory approval.”

Faster deployment

The LGT tracker has replaced manual vehicle checks with real-time LoRa and GNSS-enabled location visibility. A single LoRa gateway can support hundreds of trackers without the recurring costs of cellular devices, enabling faster deployment with lower upfront investment. Combined with Quectel’s support to accelerate SIRIM Certificate of Conformity (CoC) certification required for deployments in Malaysia, the LGT offers a scalable and cost-effective alternative to conventional cellular-based trackers in the Malaysian market.

“Deployable within minutes per vehicle with no tooling or wiring required, the LGT tracker gives yard managers instant visibility of every vehicle’s location on a single dashboard – eliminating the need for manual walk-arounds and clipboard checks,” explains Jason Lok, the Head of Development at the R&D department at G-Technologies. “Real-time alerts notify staff of unauthorized movement, while the lightweight LoRa infrastructure means a yard can go live with just one or two gateways, avoiding the cost and complexity of cellular-based alternatives. The LGT tracker is applicable across automotive, logistics, construction, and vehicle dealerships – it’s ideal for any industry that needs to monitor and manage vehicle inventory across large yards or sites without relying on cellular infrastructure.”

Precise positioning

To support the LGT with LoRa connectivity and GNSS for accurate positioning, G-Technologies selected the Quectel KG200Z LoRa module and the Quectel LC86L GNSS module. The combination allows reliable long-distance data transmission and precise positioning, and Quectel has also provided the FCC and CE certification test reports for the modules, which were essential for obtaining SIRIM CoC certification in Malaysia.

Key requirements for G-Technologies were low transmission power and the ability to understand the complexity involved in achieving SIRIM CoC certification. “We experienced a bottleneck in low transmission power with the KG200Z LoRa module, limiting our effective range,” says Lok. “Quectel’s technical support team worked closely with us to diagnose and resolve the issue, helping us achieve the transmission power needed for reliable long-range vehicle tracking.”

Turning to the certification challenge, Lok explains: “Malaysia’s SIRIM CoC process requires comprehensive FCC and CE test documentation, which can be difficult and time-consuming to compile independently. Quectel provided these certification reports directly, significantly simplifying our path to regulatory approval.”

Proven performance

In addition to these attributes, Quectel offered competitive pricing for the features and performance offered as well as proven module performance for LoRa and GNSS applications. A key goal for G-Technologies was achieving reliable long-range coverage across large vehicle yards with minimal infrastructure. The KG200Z LoRa module’s long-range capability means LGT devices can cover entire yards with just one or two gateways, keeping deployment simple and low-cost.

Power consumption for battery-powered deployment is also optimized. The trackers need to operate reliably for extended periods in the field without frequent recharging. By fine-tuning the KG200Z’s transmission parameters and using its low-power modes, a power profile that balances long-range connectivity with practical battery life has been achieved. Finally, the compact, integrated design of the module combination enabled G-Technologies to build a small-form-factor tracker that can be installed discreetly on vehicles without intrusive wiring.

“It has been a pleasure to work with Quectel,” says Lok. “From providing critical certification reports that streamlined our SIRIM CoC approval, to sending its engineering team to our office for hands-on training and support, Quectel has gone well beyond just supplying modules. Looking ahead, we plan to scale up LGT tracker deployments across more vehicle yards in Malaysia and explore additional Quectel modules for our upcoming IoT solutions.”
