Merit Awards for Telecom

Quectel wins Gold Merit Awards for Telecom in IoT and Tech4Good categories

30 MARCH 2023, IRVINE, CA, USA - Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global IoT solutions provider, has been awarded gold in two categories of the Merit Awards for Telecom. The Merit Awards are an independent awards program that recognizes global industries. The Merit Awards for Telecom were judged based on submissions that represent the best in current and next-generation telecom, wireless and mobile solutions.

In the IoT category, Quectel won the gold award for the company’s industrial grade EG800Q-EU LTE Cat 1 bis wireless communication module,, based on the Qualcomm® QCX216 LTE IoT Modem from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. An ultra-compact module in an LGA form factor, the EG800Q-EU offers greater flexibility in IoT designs and enables a wider range of IoT use cases, particularly for size-sensitive applications. The small size makes the module particularly well-suited to space constrained mid- range IoT applications.

The EG800Q-EU has a compact form factor of 15.8mm × 17.7mm × 2.4mm, enabling integrators and developers to design size-sensitive applications easily. Its advanced LGA package enables fully automated manufacturing for high-volume applications. The EG800Q-EU’s support of Cat 1 bis allows it to use a single antenna, balancing cost and performance and making the module an ideal solution for IoT terminals that are designed to be compact and cost-effective.

To help customers to facilitate their designs, Quectel offers a variety of high-performance LTE Cat 1 antennas which boost wireless connectivity significantly. IoT developers can bundle the EG800Q-EU module with Quectel’s antennas and pre-certification services, reducing both cost and time-to-market for their Cat 1 devices.

In the Tech4Good category, Quectel received another gold award for its work with Blue Frog Robotics, the Paris, France-headquartered technology company, which chose the SC66 smart IoT module from Quectel for its new Buddy PRO robot. Blue Frog Robotics creates Robots for Good that embody emotional artificial intelligence to drive important positive impacts on social issues such as ageing populations, inclusion of vulnerable people and education.

The Quectel SC66 is a new-generation multi-mode LTE Cat 6 smart module measuring 43.0mm × 44.0mm × 2.85mm with built-in Android OS. This high-performance module series supports various multimedia functions, making it ideal for both industrial and consumer applications which require high data rates. Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology allows the SC66 to greatly minimize errors and optimize data speeds.

The module also combines high-speed wireless connectivity with embedded multi-constellation and a high-sensitivity GNSS receiver for positioning. A wide range of supported interfaces including multiple screens and cameras allow the SC66 to support IoT applications including smart POS, home gateways, wearables, PDAs and tablets, vending machines, delivery lockers and in-car entertainment systems.
