vSIM: Quectel’s secure, module-based soft SIM option (Brazil)

Soft SIMs are SIMs that have no physical component – they are simply downloaded securely from the cloud to serve the same purposes as any other SIM form factor. Key benefits include reduced device size - as soft SIMs require no additional board space to host a physical SIM card - and enhanced resilience, as they avoid the susceptibility to dust or moisture from which plastic SIMs and solder can suffer. Soft SIMs also follow GSMA guidelines for SIM operational behavior, which ensures they operate identically to regular SIMs - both in terms of functionality and the security of the SIM and its data.

vSIM is Quectel’s proprietary soft SIM solution, allowing Quectel customers to draw on all the benefits of soft SIM. vSIM however provides significant advantages over standalone soft SIM offerings, as the SIM details are completely software-based within the customer’s Quectel module. This means performance can be protected by the highly robust atmospheric tolerances of Quectel modules. The ability to enable vSIM via firmware upgrade also allows customers to benefit from increased simplicity and commercial efficiency.

vSIM’s applications are essentially limitless in cellular IoT because it has no impact on factors such as coverage or throughput, making it exceptionally flexible and efficient across IoT use cases.
