Better performance, lower power, faster time-to-market and greater possibilities
Battery life and connection reliability are two of the most common hurdles in Wi-Fi product design. Devices now stream video, transfer files, and run always-on audio. Developers need wireless hardware that stays reliable without draining the battery. Wi-Fi 6 solves these issues and more. Wi-Fi 6 not only brings stronger network connections and smarter offloading - it also opens the door to device-to-device features like Wi-Fi Aware and Wi-Fi Sensing. That combination enables smarter device behavior without adding hardware cost. In this Masterclass, presented in collaboration with Infineon, we explore how Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi Aware and Wi-Fi Sensing enable smart and secure IoT devices.
Wi-Fi 6 modules enable longer battery life, smarter offloading
Wi-Fi 6 was developed in part to solve two problems: power draw and reliability. For battery-powered products, every extra millisecond of radio activity costs runtime. Wi-Fi 6 technology tackles this effectively, combining low-power operation with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth co-existence. That means a single chipset handles Bluetooth Classic and BLE audio alongside Wi-Fi traffic, without causing conflicts. This matters most in noisy environments like a busy factory floor, a smart home with a dozen connected devices, or outdoor equipment working far from a router. That stronger connectivity means fewer dropped connections and fewer support calls. And, because the radio spends less time maintaining a link, the same battery lasts longer between charges.
Open new Wi-Fi 6 device possibilities with Wi-Fi Aware and Wi-Fi Sensing
Wi-Fi Aware, formerly known as NAN, lets devices discover and connect to each other directly, without a router in between. This opens up device-to-device interactions that previously needed a cloud connection or manual pairing. This allows for instant peer discovery, local file sharing, and coordinated behavior between products on the same network. Wi-Fi Sensing goes further, allowing a Wi-Fi 6 device to detect motion and presence using the wireless signal itself, with no separate sensor required. Together, these capabilities let developers build smarter, more responsive products without increasing the bill of materials.
For engineering teams, ease of integration matters almost as much as radio performance. Quectel Wi-Fi 6 modules combine Infineon’s MCU-based and transceiver technologies with Quectel’s module-design expertise. Carefully engineered RF matching circuitry helps deliver the required radio performance while reducing customers’ RF design effort and accelerating time to market. For MCU-based modules, Quectel also provides a straightforward AT command set, enabling developers to move from prototype to production without writing low-level driver code. Pre-completed certifications, flexible antenna options, robust supply-chain management and long-term product support further simplify integration and reduce the risk of future redesigns.
