SoundThinking selects Quectel YG0030AA GNSS antenna for safety sensors
SoundThinking provides the public safety technology that delivers AI and data-driven solutions enabling law enforcement, civic leadership, and security professionals to drive more efficient, effective, and equitable public safety outcomes. The company has been using Quectel products for more than three years and currently uses the Quectel YG0030AA GNSS antenna for its gunshot sensors. It also utilizes Teltonika cellular modems, which often employ the Quectel EC25 cellular modem.
SoundThinking, which is headquartered in Fremont, California, USA, is a public safety technology company that is trusted by more than 300 customers and has worked with approximately 2,100 agencies to drive more efficient, effective and equitable public safety outcomes. The company’s SafetySmart platform includes ShotSpotter, an acoustic gunshot detection system; CrimeTracer, a law enforcement search engine; SafePointe, an AI-based weapons detection system; and PlateRanger powered by Rekor, an automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) solution.
We are using the YG0030AA GNSS antenna for our gunshot sensors, and we also use Teltonika cellular modems, which often employ the Quectel EC25 cellular modem. The GPS on the prior sensor was flaky due to us selecting a surface-mount antenna. The YG0030AA has simply blown that away. Better GPS position dilution of precision and acquisition times results in better service.

SoundThinking supports agencies and organizations in 180 cities in the U.S., Latin America, South America, and South Africa. It chose Teltonika, with the Quectel EC25, because of the stability and flexibility the module provides. The company has also been impressed with Quectel’s engagement in its roadmap planning.
The Quectel YG0030AA is an external GPS L1/L5 high-efficiency GNSS antenna with dimensions of 52mm x 52mm x 9.3mm. With a ceramic case, black radome, and a working temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, this robust antenna features an IPEX MHF I connector type.
The Quectel EC25 is a series of LTE Cat 4 modules optimized specially for M2M and IoT applications. Adopting the 3GPP Rel-11 LTE technology, the modules deliver maximum data rates up to 150Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink. The modules have dimensions of 32.0mm x 29.0mm x 2.4mm and operate in an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
“We’re delighted to continue our relationship of more than three years with SoundThinking as it uses our YG0030AA GNSS antenna to support its gunshot sensors,” says Neil Morrison, Director of Antenna Sales, Quectel Wireless Solutions. “It’s great that our EC25 modules delivered via Teltonika cellular modems are also being recognized by SoundThinking as enablers of stability and flexibility. We look forward to working on SoundThinking’s upcoming roadmap of solution innovations.”
