Quectel EC25 LTE modules help Digicom elevate lift gateways to the clouds

Quectel Wireless Solutions has announced that Digicom, which has been providing 2G and 3G voice and data gateways for use in lifts since 2008, has selected Quectel’s EC25 IoT module and FC20 platform for Digicom’s new generation of IoT gateways for lifts, the 4G LIFTGATE. These units perform the vital function of connecting the SOS emergency telephone to a help desk so trapped people can be rescued in the event of a lift stopping. In addition, the gateway also features a frame controller that enables lift companies to check the correct operation of the lift and to solve any problems that arise.

Digicom’s latest IoT gateway for lifts, the 4G LIFTGATE, can also integrate IoT functions such as wireless sensors, video cameras and displays. The specific needs of the lifts market are also addressed with devices that are on 24/7 and embedded with a backup battery to support any emergency situations.

“The Quectel EC25 perfectly meets all the lift industry’s specifications,” said Stefano Galzignato, Executive Product Manager Digicom. “We developed all the functions using the powerful QuecOpen solution, without an external processor, saving both time and costs. Our Digicom 4G LIFTGATE has innovative functions fully integrated with our IoT cloud platform, called Look@LIFT, to support the customers’ needs to connect lifts to IoT cloud environments easily.”

The Quectel EC25 is a series of LTE Cat 4 modules optimized for M2M and IoT applications. The modules deliver maximum data rates up to 150 Mbps downlink and 50 Mbps uplink. Designed in the compact and unified form factor, the EC25 series is backward-compatible with existing EDGE and GSM/GPRS networks, ensuring that it can be connected even in remote areas devoid of 4G or 3G coverage.

“We’re delighted that Digicom has selected our EC25 series of LTE Cat 4 modules to power its new 4G LIFTGATE gateway and are pleased it has found development straightforward using our QuecOpen solution,” said Dominikus Hierl, SVP Sales EMEA, Quectel Wireless Solutions. “Lift gateways perform essential safety functions and therefore lift gateways serve demanding application areas that need robust always-on connections in order to protect and serve lift users. We’re pleased our solutions are meeting these complex needs effectively.”
