Quectel 5G modules certified by Telstra Australia to drive 5G adoption in the region

Sydney, Australia, 7 December 2022 – Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global IoT solutions provider, is pleased to announce that its 5G modules RM520N-GL and RG520N-EU have both been certified by Telstra for use on its networks in Australia. These are the first modules based on the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X62 5G Modem-RF System to be certified by Telstra, and will enable customers to efficiently deploy 5G high-speed IoT devices using the operators’ network. Both modules have been approved by Telstra for 5G NSA.

The RM520N-GL is an industrial grade 5G IoT module specially optimized for IoT applications. Designed in an M.2 form factor, the module is compatible with Quectel's 5G module series RM50xQ, LTE-A Cat 6 module EM06/EM060K, Cat 12 modules EM12/EM12xR/EM120K, and Cat 16 module EM160R-GL, facilitating easy migration from LTE-A to 5G. The RG520N-EU is a 5G sub-6GHz LGA module in the RG520N series optimized specially for IoT applications and is backwards-compatible with 4G/3G networks.

“The certification of these two modules by Telstra underlines our commitment to providing best-in-class IoT solutions to our customers, no matter where they are in the world,” commented Michael Wallon, Vice President Sales, APAC and ANZ, Quectel Wireless Solutions. “The RM520N-GL and RG520N-EU are the first modules using the Snapdragon X62 to be certified by Telstra, demonstrating again Quectel’s commitment to building a smarter world.”

Both modules support Qualcomm® IZat location technology Gen9C Lite (GPS, GLONASS, BDS and Galileo) and the integrated GNSS receiver simplifies the product design and provides quicker, more accurate and dependable positioning capability. They both have a rich set of Internet protocols, industry-standard interfaces (USB 2.0/3.0/3.1, PCIe 3.0, PCM, UART, etc.) and an extensive range of functionalities, including USB drivers for Windows 7/8/8.1/10/11, Linux, and Android, making them ideal for a wide range of IoT applications including industrial routers, home gateways, STB, laptops, industrial PDAs, rugged tablet PCs, live broadcast, safety and more. It is backwards compatible with 4G/3G networks.

In addition to certification by Telstra, the RG520N-EU has multiple certifications including GCF, CE and RCM for Australia, New Zealand, and Europe, while the RM520N-GL has certifications including GCF, PTCRB, CE, RCM, FCC, IC, JATE/TELEC, KC, CCC, NCC and Anatel for worldwide. Both modules have 5G SA capability and Quectel is planning to start 5G SA certification next year with Telstra which will unleash the full 5G features including eMBB.

The Quectel module offering is complemented by its range of antennas which help optimize connection efficiency and aid ease of installation of devices. These can be supplied pre-integrated with Quectel IoT modules to accelerate time to market and help eliminate commonly found integration issues.
