Quectel helps Microside Technology accelerate 5G IoT deployments with RM520N-GL 5G module

Microside Technology is a company that specializes in IoT and Industry 4.0 solutions. Through their modular platform, XIDE, the company offers a “hardware as a service – HaaS” model that bundles hardware, connectivity, and applications into a single turnkey solution. Based in Mexico, their hardware is designed and manufactured locally, allowing them to provide local technical support and warranty services, avoiding lengthy import processes and enabling a fast response to customers.

Microside Technology was experiencing growing customer demand for high network bandwidth for their projects. However, designing high-speed wireless systems can often involve long design phases and approval cycles. They needed to find a way to provide a solution such as 5G connectivity to their customers in a timely manner, while maintaining the quality and reliability expected of their XIDE platform.

“Quectel’s RM520N-GL module allowed us to integrate next-generation connectivity into a compact, modular hardware design, with a rich set of protocols and worldwide support that made developing the hardware and implementing the software a fast and straightforward task.”

Jesus Cortes, CEO, Microside Technology

The XIDE platform’s Low-Code/No-Code methodology allows for ease of use, with reduced development time and costs, while providing a web platform and mobile app for real-time monitoring and control.

The company turned to Quectel to support 5G connectivity for their latest X-Node 5G hardware solution. Quectel is supporting Microside with its RM520N-GL 5G module which integrates into the company’s X-Node 5G, a modular hardware block that is part of the XIDE platform. Having already been a Quectel customer for 3 years, the company chose Quectel for its proven reliability and performance in 5G connectivity, global compatibility and coverage, high-quality technical support, and strong reputation and leadership in IoT technology.

With Quectel’s RM520N-GL, integration was simple due to its industry-standard M.2 form factor and support for sub-6GHz band n78 used by local carriers. The module enabled rapid integration of 5G connectivity into projects requiring monitoring, control, and large amounts of data acquisition across multiple industries.

RM520N series

“We’re thrilled that Microside Technology has selected the Quectel RM520N-GL to support their innovative XIDE platform,” said Ricardo Simon, Senior Regional Sales Director from Quectel. “It’s exciting to see how our 5G connectivity solutions are helping companies like Microside build a smarter world by enabling customers to deploy fully functional 5G projects in less than 24 hours, while maximizing their operational efficiency and data-driven decision making. We look forward to supporting Microside as it expands into global markets.”

By combining Quectel’s 5G module with AT&T’s 5G network in Mexico, Microside accelerated adoption across industries that previously saw 5G connectivity as complex or inaccessible. Additional impacts include greater commercial reach because of global compatibility, technical barriers eliminated for non-specialist users, faster market validation through AT&T’s Innovation Lab in Mexico, and recognition as Winner of the 2024 AT&T 5G Fund (second edition). The solution is deployed primarily in Mexico and Latin America, with global expansion potential.
