INSYS icom introduces MRX LTE 450 routers with Quectel EC200S-EN module
INSYS icom, a provider of industrial data communication devices has selected the Quectel EC200S-EN LTE 450 module for its MRX LTE 450 router, of which there are three variants, and its MRcard PL450. The company is the leading manufacturer and supplier for the energy and water supply segment and also positions itself as a premium partner in the field of machine builders. Headquartered in Regensburg, Germany, INSYS icom offers intelligent and powerful industrial routers, and software solutions so machines, plants and other devices can be reached remotely and their operating data can be transmitted.
Adoption of LTE 450 is growing because the bands around 450MHz are well-suited to the demands of IoT devices and for critical applications ranging from smart grid and smart meter services to public safety applications. A key differentiator of the 450MHz band is its long range which delivers significantly increased coverage.
With LTE 450 now available in Germany, Austria, Sweden and more markets set to roll-out networks, industrial organizations are turning to the technology to connect a wide range of assets, devices and data. “There is big interest in the MRX router for use in critical infrastructures,” confirms Heiko Noll, the Product Manager for Devices at INSYS icom. “With the ongoing ramp up of the LTE 450 network in Germany, we see even more customer interest in the technology.”

The modularity of the company’s MRX routers makes it possible to put together a customized router for each individual application. With extensive routing functionality and high IT security, the MRX is well suited for remote access to critical infrastructures and machinery. As with all routers from INSYS icom, the MRX series devices offer high system stability, durability and uniform user guidance.
The products utilize LTE 450 so they can benefit from excellent area and building coverage, high system availability by means of an integrated emergency power supply, prioritization of applications with high criticality and a high level of security thanks to self-sufficient network infrastructure.
The Quectel EC200S-EN is an LTE Cat 1 module optimized for IoT. The module, which provides support for medium data rates up to 10Mbps downlink and 5Mbps uplink at a competitive price. The module is designed for routers, gateways and concentrators that need to offer sustainable data throughput utilizing connectivity that offers large network coverage, a global standard and a future proof network. The EC200S-EN has a compact form factor of 29.0mm x 32.0mm x 2.4mm and weighs 4.3g, making it an ideal solution for supporting communication requirements for applications such as utility metering in addition to use cases that rely on cost-effective reliable connectivity.
Initially, we experienced some small performance issues but they were overcome by several firmware updates and tests by Quectel. By working closely with Quectel, we were able to overcome some hurdles during the development phase.
