GEN Motorcycles accelerates telematics experiences with Quectel modules and antennas

GEN Motorcycles Indonesia, which trades under the Savart brand, has selected Quectel modules and antennas to power IoT telematics functionality for its latest electric motorcycle. The company – which designs, engineers, and manufactures electric motorcycles from the ground up, and carries out its own manufacturing down to the component level – chose the Quectel EC25EFA-512-STD module and the company’s YC0003AA LTE and YCGS006AA GNSS antennas.

The motorcycle which is sold in Indonesia, delivers a new experience for motorcycle riders thanks to a much-enhanced telematics-driven user experience. This is enabled by the Quectel EC25 series of LTE Cat 4 modules which offer maximum performance of 150Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink in a compact 32.0mm x 29.0mm x 2.4mm form factor. Capable of operating within an extended temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, the EC25 series has been designed to support applications in which space is constrained and robustness is needed, such as motorcycles and other telematics scenarios.

“Quectel provided great support at length in developing our printed circuit board PCB. We are very grateful that the field application engineers are very dedicated in making this project work. This was a new project and Quectel supported us from the very beginning in designing the PCB and providing assistance throughout the process, enabling the vehicle control unit and particularly the IoT functionality of our new motorcycle.

“Quectel provided great support at length in developing our printed circuit board PCB,” says William E. Taifan, the CEO of GEN Motorcycles Indonesia. “We are very grateful that the field application engineers are very dedicated in making this project work. This was a new project and Quectel supported us from the very beginning in designing the PCB and providing assistance throughout the process, enabling the vehicle control unit and particularly the IoT functionality of our new motorcycle.”

GEN Motorcycles Indonesia also specified the Quectel YC0003AA LTE antenna, which is a surface-mount design (SMD) measuring 40mm x 7mm x 3mm, and the YCGS006AA GNSS L1 and G1 SMD antenna, measuring 25mm x 25mm x 4mm. The company was attracted to Quectel because of the performance of these products plus the technical support provided. In addition, Quectel was able to offer a considerably shorter lead time than other vendors and it was able to supply the modules and antennas at competitive cost. “Quectel has been very supportive in our IoT development,” confirms Taifan. “Quectel has gone out of its way to support the development of our RF board overall.”
