Amazon Sidewalk is a secure and reliable community network providing persistent connectivity to third-party IoT devices that are outside of the range of typical home networks. The Sidewalk network uses Bluetooth® Low Energy for short-distance communication, with FSK and CSS at sub-1 GHz frequencies to cover longer distances.
Amazon Sidewalk modules allow IoT devices to connect automatically to the network through Sidewalk Bridges, such as compatible Amazon Echo and Ring devices, removing the need for manual onboarding. Amazon Sidewalk modules therefore bring out-of-the-box connectivity to everyday objects inside and outside the home, from appliances and mailboxes to keys, pet trackers and streetlights.

KGM100XB for Amazon Sidewalk
Quectel provides two Amazon Sidewalk modules, so you can match the hardware to your product’s cost, power, and I/O needs. Both modules share the same 15mm x 15mm x 2.25mm footprint. Both also support Sub-1 GHz CSS, Sub-1 GHz FSK, and Bluetooth Low Energy.
The KG100S runs on a Silicon Labs EFR32BG21B processor with Secure Vault security, making it a fit for teams already working within the Silicon Labs ecosystem or wanting an established support path. The KGM100XB pairs a Telink RISC-V processor with a Semtech transceiver and was developed jointly by Amazon and Quectel for both first-party and third-party products.

How Amazon Sidewalk works
Every Amazon Sidewalk development kit connects to the same shared, low-bandwidth network, built from everyday Amazon devices. Compatible Echo and Ring devices act as Sidewalk Bridges, using a small slice of their own internet connection to relay data from nearby Sidewalk-enabled products. Amazon reports that more than 50 million Echo and Ring devices already act as Sidewalk Bridges, reaching roughly 95% of the US population. Because of that scale, a Sidewalk device can connect the moment it is provisioned, without a gateway to install or a subscription to pay for. The two modules share the same footprint and radio protocols, but differ in chipset, GPIO count, and Bluetooth version.
