How to choose between Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 7, and Wi-Fi HaLow

Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi HaLow are rapidly expanding the ability of Wi-Fi networks to connect devices that need higher speeds, wider coverage and lower latency than Wi-Fi could previously support. There is now huge potential for Wi-Fi outside the home and traditional institutional settings – from stadiums and ports to factories and even agriculture – positioning Wi-Fi as an increasingly compelling alternative to cellular connections.

Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E offer better coverage, improved node density and lower power consumption than Wi-Fi 5 – dramatically improving performance in high-density environments which might otherwise require broadband. Wi-Fi 7 goes further still, introducing breakthrough features like multi-link operation (MLO) and 320MHz channel bandwidth. This enables support for high-speed applications with ultra-low latency requirements such as AR/VR and cloud computing. Wi-Fi HaLow is meanwhile upending assumptions over the limitations of Wi-Fi’s range and penetration, proving the technology of choice for smart cities, sprawling industrial sites and connected farms.

The growth potential for innovators drawing on these technologies is immense. Wi-Fi 5 retained 56% market share in 2024, but the rapid rise of Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 means they will collectively grow from 29% of the market in 2024 to 43% in 2025. But designers must understand which offers the best balance of performance, range, features and cost for their project. Join us to gain expert insights into the latest advancements in Wi-Fi and how our ever-expanding range of solutions can ensure the results you need - whether you work in utilities, logistics, industrial IoT, telemedicine or beyond.
