## Frequently asked questions

### What is LTE Cat 1 bis, and how is it different from LTE Cat 1?

LTE Cat 1 bis reduces the cellular receive-antenna requirement to one while retaining the category's peak 10 Mbps downlink / 5 Mbps uplink rates. This can simplify RF integration. Voice, PCM, host interfaces and operator services remain module- and firmware-specific; a category label does not establish released voice support on EG800Q.

### Should I use LTE Cat 1 bis or LTE-M / NB-IoT?

LTE-M and NB-IoT are options for low data volumes and constrained power budgets. Evaluate EG800Q when higher peak throughput or the application's mobility and reporting pattern favors Cat 1 bis. Compare actual operator coverage, latency requirements, firmware behavior and a measured power budget; no category choice alone guarantees maximum battery life or lower latency on every network.

### Does EG800Q fall back to 2G or 3G?
No. EG800Q is LTE-only, which suits markets where 2G and 3G networks are shutting down, such as North America and much of Europe. For GSM fallback, see the [EG915U series](https://www.quectel.com/product/lte-cat-1-bis-eg915u-series/).

### Which EG800Q variant should I use in North America?

The V1.9 table lists Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile for NA, with FDD B2/4/5/12/13/66. NAD adds B25 and B71; its table lists T-Mobile and marks Rogers in progress. Obtain current operator and regulatory confirmation for the exact ordering code before deployment.

### How low is EG800Q's power consumption?

For EU/NA/NAD/IN, V1.9 lists 0.045–0.06 mA in the CFUN=0 sleep configuration with USB disconnected, 0.13–0.15 mA in the CFUN=4 sleep configuration with USB disconnected, and 3.90–4.77 mA idle at PF=64 with USB disconnected. CFUN=4 disables RF; these numbers are not connected network sleep. The full table also retains the different GL figures and USB-connected idle values. Validate PSM/eDRX against the applicable firmware, network and application cycle.

### How does Wi-Fi scan positioning work on EG800Q?

Wi-Fi Scan collects observations of nearby 2.4 GHz access points. A compatible host and external location service can use those observations to estimate position where service and access-point coverage are available, including some indoor environments. It does not guarantee indoor accuracy, provide satellite positioning or establish general Wi-Fi Internet connectivity.

### Does EG800Q support voice?

V1.9 marks PCM digital audio in development/planning/in progress and does not establish released end-to-end voice support for every EG800Q configuration. Confirm the exact ordering code, firmware, audio interface and operator service before specifying voice.

### Does EG800Q support eSIM?

The official catalog includes an [EG800Q-EU eSIM application note](https://www.quectel.com/download/quectel_eg800q-eu_esim_application_note_v1-0/). It applies to the named configuration; verify firmware, eUICC/SIM integration and provisioning requirements rather than extending it to every regional variant.

### How do I get EG800Q documentation and pricing?
Register a free account in the [Quectel Download Zone](https://www.quectel.com/download-zone/) for hardware design, AT command and application documents. For pricing, email sales-support@quectel.com or contact an [authorized distributor](https://www.quectel.com/distributors/).

### Can EG800Q replace EG915U on the same PCB?

The published package dimensions and interfaces differ. Compare pinout, supply, RF, peripherals, host software and approvals using the exact hardware documents; equal 10/5 Mbps peak rates do not establish interchangeability.

### Does Wi-Fi Scan replace a GNSS receiver?

Wi-Fi Scan provides observations for an external positioning workflow. It does not establish satellite positioning, a universal indoor accuracy or Wi-Fi data connectivity. Add an appropriate GNSS receiver, such as a selected LC29H model, when the design needs satellite positioning and validate the complete system.

## Sources, version and review scope

Technical values use the linked EG800Q V1.9 specification and manufacturer product resources reviewed for this draft on 28 October 2026. Where the short overview differs from the detailed specification, the model-specific values and conditions are shown explicitly. Customer examples identify their own systems and do not guarantee every variant's result. White-paper descriptions use public landing-page summaries; registration-gated full papers were not retrieved. Download-catalog entries identify resources whose full contents were not all reviewed. Confirm current ordering availability, firmware release and certification before a production design.
