Quectel supports automotive industry in C-V2X interoperability demo and large-scale capability test

SHANGHAI, CHINA –  November 20, 2020 – Quectel has successfully collaborated with over 100 automotive and technology companies in China's 2020 C-V2X Cross-Industry & Large-Scale Pilot Plugfest held last month in Shanghai, showcasing its automotive modules' interoperability and conformity to the latest cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) standard and functionality.

Enabling vehicles to communicate with each other, with road users and infrastructures around them, C-V2X technology provides 360° non-line-of-sight awareness and a higher level of predictability for enhanced road safety and autonomous driving. Currently, it has been accepted worldwide as a core technology to support automated driving.

More than 40 OEMs conducted demonstration rides to test the interoperability at all levels including vehicles, chipsets systems, terminals and communication security systems. This year's demo also integrates HD mapping, accurate positioning services as well as more complex driving scenarios.

In the demo, 18 car makers and 10 Tier 1 suppliers adopted Quectel's AG15 C-V2X module and AG520R LTE-A and C-V2X module to deliver automotive communication. The latter module, a new addition to this year’s event, was the first and only module based on Qualcomm's SA415M chipset, and has supported automotive partners including Geely, NIO, Human Horizons, Honda, Toyota and more to successfully finish the demo.

The AG520R supports LTE Cat 16 and C-V2X and fully meets the IATF 16949:2016 quality management standards. Adopting the 3GPP Rel. 14 technology, it features LTE connection with a maximum of 1.6Gbps downlink and 75Mbps uplink data rates. With integrated C-V2X PC5 direct communications and high-definition positioning, the AG520R helps enhance driving safety and traffic efficiency to ease congestion and increase capacity, supporting C-V2X commercialization at scale.

This year's event saw the addition of the Large-Scale Pilot Plugfest with more than 180 on-board and Roadside units used to emulate complex testing conditions such as rush hours in urban areas and congested roads. The test validates the large-scale serviceability of the C-V2X system with its excellent performance in communication and application functions on chips, modules, terminals and vehicles. With this, the industry has taken important steps to C-V2X commercialization at scale.

Quectel successfully participated in the demo and large-scale pilot tests, showing its C-V2X modules' superior performance in providing data transmission for connected vehicles. These C-V2X modules will support increasingly automated driving which is safer and more efficient and are ready for large-scale deployment both in China and other countries and regions.

As a global supplier of IoT modules, Quectel has developed a rich C-V2X portfolio for auto-related applications, including C-V2X module AG15, the AG52x series of LTE-A and C-V2X modules and the AG55x series of 5G and C-V2X modules, which ensures technological continuity for future plans in automotive customers' deployments in intelligent cars and transport systems.
