# New Product Intro: RM255C 5G RedCap module

**The [RM255C](https://www.quectel.com/product/5g-redcap-rm255c-gl/) is one of our newest and most advanced RedCap modules – Software Engineer Vladimir Sopic explains more in this short NPI video**

The RM255C is an M.2 module based on 3GPP Release 17 RedCap (reduced capacity) technology which supports 5G SA modes and is backwards-compatible with the 4G network. The module supports a theoretical peak data rate of 150Mbps downlink and 50Mbps uplink, while also supporting advanced 5G features such as URLLC and power saving.

The module is compatible with Quectel’s LTE-A Cat 6 modules from the EM06 series, Cat 12 modules EM12-G / EM120K-GL / EM121R-GL / EM120R-GL, Cat 16 module EM160R-GL, and 5G modules RM500Q / RM502Q series, which facilitates customers’ ease of migration.

RM255C is designed for the global market and covers nearly all the mainstream carriers worldwide. The module supports L1+L5 precise and power-optimized positioning. The integrated GNSS greatly simplifies product design, and provides quicker, more accurate and more dependable positioning capability.

A rich set of internet protocols, industry-standard interfaces and abundant functionalities (PCIE 2.0/USB 2.0/Linux) allow the module to serve a wide range of applications such as industrial automation, smart cities, smart energy, wearable devices and mid-speed mobile broadband devices.
