Quectel collaborates with Qualcomm Technologies on intelligent connectivity solutions for next-gen vehicles

SHANGHAI, CHINA – February 1, 2020 – Quectel Wireless Solutions, a global supplier of IoT modules, is collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies to offer advanced and smart connections to vehicles, including 5G, LTE/LTE-A, C-V2X and other automotive modules to empower safer and more efficient driving.

"We work hand-in-hand with Qualcomm Technologies to develop our competitive automotive communication modules to enable safe and efficient driving experiences to bring 5G connected vehicles into the 5G era. By leveraging Qualcomm's most advanced 4G/5G automotive platforms, Quectel's modules have been selected by over 30 auto makers globally to support intelligent connectivity in their vehicles," said Patrick Qian, Quectel's CEO at an event with the theme “Automotive Redefined”, held by Qualcomm on 26-27 January 2021.

Quectel has developed its automotive communication modules based on Qualcomm's full cellular automotive portfolio, which include Quectel's AG35 LTE module, AG52xQ LTE-A and C-V2X modules, AG15 C-V2X module and AG55xQ 5G and C-V2X modules as well as the AG215S AP module. All these modules support automakers and Tier 1 suppliers with secure connections to meet the increasing demands of safe and premium driving experiences as well as continuity of technology evolution.

To date, Quectel's automotive modules have been globally adopted by major auto brands to support intelligent connectivity in applications such as T-BOX, on-board navigation systems and other telematics services. The AG52xR supporting LTE-A technology has been selected by a leading global auto maker for deployment in its new vehicle and is now available on the market.

C-V2X, as the global solution to enhance road safety and facilitate smart transportation systems, has made significant progress toward commercial production in global markets. Last month, Quectel's AG15 C-V2X module was announced as supporting Hongqi's E-HS9 vehicle and Buick's GL8 Avenir with intelligent connectivity, making them the world's first commercialized production vehicles to feature LTE-V2X technology. This move further indicates that C-V2X has become mature and is ready for commercial deployment in connected vehicles.

In terms of 5G connectivity in the automotive industry, Quectel's AG55xQ series modules have many customers' designs in the pipeline, including GWM (Great Wall Motor), Human Horizons, SAIC-GM and others. The intelligent connected vehicles are expected to be commercially deployed in 2021 and 2022.

Currently, the 5G automotive module AG551Q-CN, designed for the Chinese mainland, has gained certification with CCC (China Compulsory Certificate), SRRC (State Radio Regulation Committee) and NAL (Network Access License), allowing customers to integrate their connected vehicles and devices with 5G technology in China.
