It is a fact that Australians enjoy a high quality, world-class healthcare system. This year, Telstra’s Innovation Challenge calls upon tech-minded aspirants to help further improve healthcare quality with innovative ideas, using Cat M1 Radio Access Technology and IoT applications.
Cat M1 is a new standard of Radio Access Technology specifically designed for the Internet of Things (IoT) and M2M devices. It features low power consumption, increased signal penetration, wide coverage, massive connectivity and lower cost, ideal to enable a wide range of healthcare applications, such as patient and elderly people monitoring/tracking, remote biometric measurements such as Heart Rate, Blood Pressure, Glucose levels, etc.
Telstra’s CAT M1 enabled cellular development kits that will be provided to the contestants have been designed and manufactured by Tekt Industries Pty Ltd in Melbourne. At the heart of Cellular Communications is the Quectel BG96 multi-band / multimode module providing efficient, low power communications to Telstra’s Cat M1 network. The development system includes a co-processor, an Arduino host and number of other sensors, including accelerometer, temperature and ambient light. It is compatible with Telstra’s IoT Platform, MQTT (SSL), and Microsoft Azure.
Asked to comment, Quectel’s ANZ Sales Manager Alexander Katsoulis said: “We feel proud that a Quectel module has been selected to help devise solutions that, can help individuals stay healthier and healthcare professionals work even more effectively, further improving people’s lives. Australia has brilliant innovative minds and we are sure ideas and solutions stemming out of this contest will prove valuable in addressing needs and improvements in our existing healthcare system.”
