Quectel Working with Qualcomm to Accelerate Commercialization of C-V2X

Quectel Wireless Solutions today announced that the company will be working with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. to accelerate the commercialization of Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology using Qualcomm 9150 C-V2X chipset solution.


C-V2X is a global solution for V2X communications designed to improve automotive safety, automated driving and traffic efficiency. It allows vehicles to interact with surroundings that could influence the traffic. C-V2X mainly includes Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) and Vehicle-to-Pedestrian (V2P).



Min Wang, Quectel’s Automotive Product Director, told that with the strong support from Qualcomm, Quectel is expecting to speed up the development of next-generation automotive module based on the 9150 C-V2X chipset. He believes that the new module incorporating C-V2X technology will enable connected cars to go further in road safety, and pave the way for autonomous driving in the forthcoming 5G era.


“It is not enough for vehicles alone to become smart. They need to be interconnected with nearby cars, roadside infrastructures and road users so that cars can ‘talk’ with surroundings, detect unusual and risky situations, and take preventive measures,” said Min, “C-V2X technology will make such connectivity possible and allow for safer driving and optimized traffic flows.”

C-V2X is designed to be globally compatible with 5G mobile technologies, which means that investments in infrastructure and modules today will be future-proof. Besides, it complements other Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensors, such as cameras, radar and LIDAR. C-V2X direct communication mode will offer vehicles low latency communications without the involvement of a cellular network, or cellular network subscription, by operating on designated and harmonized 5.9 GHz Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) spectrum. This will significantly reduce vehicle communications cost and complexity.


As a cost-effective solution, C-V2X continues to gain worldwide support in the automotive industry, with field validations being carried out in Germany, France, Korea, China, Japan and the U.S.



As demand rises around the world, the connected vehicle market is one of the fastest growing segments of the Internet of Things, potentially generating application revenue of US$273 billion by 2026, according to Machina Research’s forecasts.
