Quectel Wireless Solutions, a leading global supplier of Internet of Things (IoT) modules, announced its BG96 module is the first LTE Cat M1 + GSM Low-Power Wide-Area module to be certified by Verizon after comprehensive laboratory and field testing.
“This certification is a testament to Quectel’s commitment to deliver high quality and reliable services to our customers. Now, customers using our 2G and 3G modules can accelerate their Cat M1 deployment using BG96 modules,” said Patrick Qian, Quectel CEO.
While the certification only applies to Cat M1 and EGPRS, BG96 also supports NB-IoT. In addition, the BG96 module also supports GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, BEIDOU, GALILEO and QZSS), which helps customers with location requirements for compact design and cost.
Developed on Qualcomm’s multimode LTE modem MDM9206, BG96 features ultra-low power consumption, as well as extended indoor coverage with up to 15dB coverage enhancement, compared with GSM. It also offers a maximum data rate of up to 300kbps downlink and up to 375kbps uplink, and can be applied to vertical segments requesting medium and low data rates.
“Quectel BG96 modules, combined with Verizon’s Cat M1 network, brings new possibilities for IoT innovators to develop devices for markets requiring low cost, mobility and longer battery life, such as smart metering, tracker, sharing bicycle and emergency alarm panel,” according to Patrick.
