Quectel’s 4G/LTE CAT-1 EC21 and the CAT-4 EC25 modules, based on the MDM9x07 LTE modems from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated will both be available in LCC module and miniPCIe form factors.
The EC21 series delivers enhanced power performance and M2M-optimized category 1 speeds up to 10 Mbps in the downlink and up to 5 Mbps in the uplink via highly efficient 4G LTE connectivity. These features make the EC21 ideal for numerous IoT applications taking advantage of the longevity and reliability of LTE networks. The EC21 supports Qualcomm® IZat™ location technology Gen8C Lite (GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo and QZSS). The Integrated GNSS functionality simplifies product design.
The EC25 series supports LTE category 4 speeds up to 150 Mbps down and up to 50 Mbps up with 2G and 3G fallback. It is ideally suited for tablets, vehicle infotainment systems, ruggedized mobile terminals as well as high-speed M2M applications such as digital signage, mobile health and remote security, where backwards compatibility with 3G and 2G networks is desired. The EC25 supports the same GNSS functionality as the EC21
Common Features of EC21 and EC25 Series:
• Module variants available for the Americas, Europe, Brazil, Australia and APAC
• Form factor and layout compatibility - 80-pin LCC + 64-pin LGA in single 32.0 x 29.0 x 2.4mm package
• Pin-to-Pin compatible with Quectel’s LTE CAT-3 EC20 and UMTS/HSPA+ UC20 modules enabling a single PCB layout for use by virtually any end-product variation

“As a module supplier dedicated to M2M/IoT wireless applications, we are always looking for new ways to innovate and accelerate growth,” said Delbert Sun, Marketing Director of Quectel. “We’re pleased to work with Qualcomm Technologies, on its new MDM9x07 family of LTE IoT modems. With the EC21 and EC25 devices Quectel continues to focus on quality and performance. We see a great opportunity for integrators to utilize our new 4G/LTE IoT and mobile broadband modules in power, speed, and cost-optimized devices.”
The IoT is bringing a massive surge of smart, cellular connected machines with a wide range of connectivity requirements. No single technology is ideally suited to all the different IoT applications, market situations and spectrum availability. The emergence of narrowband IoT technologies is happening at just the right time to support the need for even more cost and power conscious devices. This network technology will enable an explosive growth of new devices.
Delbert Sun further stated, “Quectel has committed to develop narrowband CAT-M1 and CAT-NB1 modules based on the MDM9206 chipset from Qualcomm Technologies. Each of these modules will have several variants to meet the requirements of global connectivity. Samples of the CAT-M1 and CAT-NB1 modules are expected to be available respectively in the fourth quarter of 2016 and the first quarter of 2017.”
“We are excited that Quectel is incorporating Qualcomm Technologies’ cost-optimized, power-efficient LTE IoT modems to advance the IoT space,” said Anthony Murray, senior vice president and general manager, Qualcomm Technologies International, Ltd. “Our MDM9x07 and MDM9206 modems help Quectel’s IoT/M2M-optimized modules to have the flexibility to operate in a diverse set of operator deployments and coverage scenarios with enhanced scalability to address a wide range of IoT applications.”
